Stephen William Smee

     Stephen William Smee, son of the late George Franklin Smee and Elva Gaines Smee, was born on May 18, 1942 in Broseley, Missouri and departed this life on June 5, 2019 at Mercy Health-Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky at the age of 77 years.

     Mr. Smee was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving in Japan during the Vietnam War.  He was a former manager of the grain elevator for MFA in Bernie, Missouri, for a number of years.  Most recently, he was manager of the AgriChem office in Eddyville, KY. Steve was involved in sports from a young age – playing, coaching, and refereeing filled many hours. As a result, he was awarded the Kentucky Colonel title in recognition of outstanding service to his community. He enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening and bird watching, and was a proud fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.

     On June 19, 1965, in Bernie, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Mary Coats, who resides in Calvert City, Kentucky. Their loving, strong and happy marriage continues to set an amazing example for all who knew them. 

     In addition to his wife, Mary, he is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Zimmerman and her husband, Eric, of O’Fallon, Missouri; three sons, Christopher Smee and his wife, April, of Gilbertsville, Kentucky, Derek Smee of Spruce Pine, North Carolina and Jason Smee and his wife, Darla, of Newbern, Tennessee; by two brothers, Stan Smee of Jackson, Missouri and Gary Smee of Mountain City, Texas; by one sister, Sharon Smiley of Bernie, Missouri, and by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be dearly missed. 

     Other than by his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Lori Ann Smee, in infancy. 

     Graveside services will be conducted at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Missouri on Monday, June 10, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Dean Williams officiating.

     Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter is in charge of all arrangements.
